A Valentines Day Special from the German food blog Pancake Stories - peanut butter strawberry jelly pancake hearts in sticks sprinkled with rose petals and salt. That's the big romantic gesture you were looking for.

Nothing spreads love more than peanut butter, right?! This valentines day we came up with a very special (and yet easy to make) recipe for that special someone in your life. These cake pop like pancake hearts on a stick are a great cheap last minute gift way to show your better half how special you are to them.

All you need is love, roses, peanut butter, some strawberry jam and aaagain, loads of LOVE!

For the rose salt:
One bouquet roses any colors you like, make sure that you buy some that are not chemically sprayed.
Utensils:
Baking tray, baking paper, salt
  1. Take some roses and twist the head of the rose and hold the plant stalk against it. This is the easiest way to get all the leaves of the rose unharmed.
  2. Now spread the leaves on a backing tray and sprinkle some salt above them and put it in the preheated oven with 100 degrees Celsius (212 F) for about 30 minutes.
  3. After 15 minutes, take a wooden spoon and make sure that none of the leaves stick to the baking parchment.
  4. Put a wooden spoon between the oven door so that the moisture can get out.
  5. Lay out the leaves with the salt and some more salt on a plate and let them rest for about 1 or 2 days until you put them in a jar, otherwise the rest of the moisture can make them go moldy.
  6. When they are dry, mix the leaves with any salt you like most, we used Himalaya salt.

4g baking soda
4g baking powder

  1. Mix the dry ingredients together(flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, sugar) in one of the small bowls.
  2. Separate the eggs. Put the egg yolk in the other small bowl and the egg white in the big bowl.
  3. Mix the 50ml oil with the egg yolk in the small bowl and set aside.
  4. Stir the egg white in the big bowl until it is nearly stiff. Add the buttermilk and stir it again.
  5. Take the last empty small bowl and put in the peanut putter plus 1 tablespoon of oil. Melt the peanut butter for about 10-20 seconds in a microwave. If you don't have a microwave at home you can also melt the peanut butter in a water bath.
  6. Mix the egg yolk and the melted peanut butter into the egg white mixture and add the dry ingredients and stir it again.
  7. Put the dough in the fridge for about 20 minutes. You can use the time to clean up the mess you've made or to decorate the table with some leftover rose leaves.
  8. Take the dough out of the fridge and bake only one pancake at a time in a well coated pan without any oil. You need the pancakes to be thick. You can flip the pancake when you can see some bubbles coming up.
  9. Let the pancakes cool down and set aside.

For the peanut butter glaze:
200g white chocolate
50g peanut butter
Utensils: small pot, a bowl that fits into the pot to make a water bath, a spatula
  1. Fill the small pot with water and put in the bowl and make sure that the bowl bottom doesn't contact with the water. Heat up the water to a medium heat.
  2. Chop the white chocolate so that it can melt better. Melt half of the white chocolate in the bowl. Add the peanut butter and the rest of the white chocolate.
  3. Let the bowl with the mixture on the hot water pot and set aside.
  4. Now we are ready to compose everything together!

Putting it together:
Strawberry jelly (or any other jelly you love)
The Peanut butter pancakes
The rose salt

Utensils: heart shaped cookie cutter, shashlik skewers, a spoon, a fork, a sharp knife, a baking paper or a silicone mat.
  1. Take the heart biscuit cutter and cut some hearts out of the pancakes. (Eat the rest!)
  2. Make a cut in the heart on one side, but not totally through the pancake heart, because otherwise the shashlik skewers wont hold.
  3. Take a knife and spread the jelly in the pancake and stick the shashlik skewer in the bottom of the heart.
  4. Now take the glaze and make sure that the pancake heart doesn't fall in it completely. Take a spoon and cover the pancake heart with the peanut butter glaze.
  5. Put the covered hearts on a baking paper or silicone mat and sprinkle the rose salt on top.
  6. Now put the hearts in the fridge and wait for about 15- 20 minutes.
  7. Take them out of the fridge and lay them on a plate or stick them (like us) in a jar or something.
  8. Now put on a good love song playlist and wait for your valentine to come home to surprise them.
